The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested 3 former government officials in the lands ministry, over their alleged involvement in the transfer of land belonging to the public.
Former Lands Commissioner Wilson Gachanja was arrested over the illegal acquisition of a 30 million shilling beach plot in Diani.
Former Senior Lands officer in charge of the Coast Province Zablon Mabeya and Former Physical Planner at the ministry – Jabu Salim, were arrested for facilitating illegal acquisition of public land by private developers.
“The public land in question is a public access road- Kwale Diani/Beach Block/1072 valued at Kshs.30,000,000.00,” said EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak.
“Notably, Wilson Gachanja and Zablon Mabeya feature prominently in the various public land recovery suits that EACC has filed in court. EACC seeks to hold all persons involved in public land grabbing to account. More related investigations are underway” added Mbarak.
“Public officials hold office to serve public interest and as such, they should at all-time desist from breaching the trust vested in them. Investigations targeting more public officials on related public land matters are ongoing.”
The three suspects who are currently at the Integrity Centre will be arraigned before the Mombasa Law Court on Tuesday, 21st June, 2022.
