The IEBC dispute resolution committee has dismissed the petition challenging the clearance of UDA Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Johnson Sakaja.
The tribunal cited lack of jurisdiction to probe his academic credentials as the Commission on University Education had already validated his degree.
The same verdict was also rendered in the case against Machakos gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti who faced similar allegations of non-valid degree certificates.
Sakaja’s Teams University degree was questioned on the basis of its legitimacy while the petition against Wavinya questioned the order in which she acquired 2 degrees.
The two candidates welcomed the pronouncement although the clean bill of health however came with a rider for Sakaja.
At the same time, The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Disputes Tribunal has disqualified Kiambu Senatorial candidate Karungo Wa Thang’wa from running in the August 9 poll.
The IEBC ruled that Karungo had been removed from office through impeachment and would therefore be disqualified from ever holding public office.
The tribunal dismissed the Senate aspirant’s claim of resignation before his impeachment, while upholding the decision by the Kiambu Returning Officer not to clear the politician.
