Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has moved to the High court on Wednesday to petition the decision of the Commission for University Education to revoke a degree certificate he acquired from a Ugandan university.
In a judicial review petition filed at Milimani High Court, Sakaja wants the court to quash the commission’s decision dated June 14 and issue a prohibitory order stopping the electoral commission from sticking out his name from the list of the cleared gubernatorial candidates.
Sakaja wants the court to compel the state agency, to maintain the validity of his degree, which he got from Teams University in Kampala, Uganda.
Senator Johnson Sakaja has also accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of using his influence in Kenya and Uganda to frustrate his governorship bid.
The lawmaker has, however, not provided any evidence to support these claims.
He has maintained that his bachelor’s degree from Team University in Uganda is credible. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission denied writing to a Ugandan University seeking clarification of his degree certificate.
The now fake letter showed that the Commission chairman Wafula Chebukati wrote to Ms Ellen Katusabe of Team University questioning the validity of Sakaja’s degree.
The letter in question requested to know when Sakaja joined the school among other details.
The issues on the certification of Team University came after a section of Kenyans questioned the truthfulness of Sakaja graduating from the University of Nairobi.
Sakaja was cleared on June 7 after submitting his documents to IEBC.
He is contesting for the seat against Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance candidate, Polycarp Igathe
