The Commission for University Education (CUE) has revoked the recognition of Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja’s degree from Team University in Uganda.

It says its officers are investigating the validity of the degree amid reports that it was forged.

“The Commission for University Education has received material information about the authenticity of the degree you presented from Team University, that will require further investigation to ascertain the validity of the said degree certificate” read part of a letter from CUE to Sakaja.

This comes after the commission had earlier written to the senator confirming the recognition of his certificate.

It follows a move by four complainants who filed petitions, seeking to have Sakaja’s clearance to run for Nairobi governorship under a UDA Party ticket revoked, saying he lacks the required education qualifications.

The petitioners —Dennis Wahome, Evans Kaita, Timothy Ayieko and Alex Musalia — allege that Sakaja acquired the certificate fraudulently, adding that his name is not in the school’s list of 2016 graduates.

Sakaja has however maintained that the Bachelor of Science in Management degree, was conferred to him by Team University in Uganda having satisfied the requirements for the award.
