Mwilu: Judiciary Will Offer Pro Bono Services To Vulnerable Children

Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has said that victimized children will be facilitated with lawyers and Advocates who will represent them in the courts of law.

While officiating the African Child event that focuses on the access of Justice for child victims of harmful practices, Justice Mwilu  further noted that the law  agency  will implement the pro bono services for children as recommended by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga back in 2016 .

Mwilu said the state will also cater for the lawyers charges and consequently pay their dues.

The DCJ said the Judiciary will be more involved in Court Users Committees on children matters to ensure that justice is dispensed in a timely manner.

Mwilu however said the priviledge will only benefit children with serious cases of defilement, rape, murder or any other that will have infringed the child laws.

Mwilu also lamented that many culprits go free when parents do not report them.

‘A parent who conceals a crime against a child, is not fit to be a parent. Following defilement, parents should help their child access justice by quickly presenting them to a hospital for collection of evidence.Victims should not take a shower first.’ DCJ Mwilu

The event was held at a town hall meeting with over 1000 children at the Mbagathi Primary School
