The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says they have made plans for alternative presidential election results transmission in 1,111 polling centers that are not covered by the 3G network.
Speaking at the Bomas Kenya ,IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan said the decision was informed by a report from the communication authority that singled out the centers.
IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati insisted that the technology will be transparent in all the polling stations.
He added that the law only demands that presidential results be transmitted in real time .
The simulation was sampled from 2900 polling stations across the country. Four presidential candidates have been cleared by the IEBC and are awaiting gazettement .
Technology has become a key component of the Kenyan electoral process since 2013, when it was first deployed to cure the challenges that led to the 2007/8 post-election violence.
This was bolstered by the 2017 Court of Appeal ruling in the Maina Kiai case, which fortified the role of technology in the electoral process.
The commission initiated procurement of election technology in April 2021, before signing a contract with the vendor in November of the same year.
