Ferdinand Omanyala is the new 100 metres African champion after emerging the winner in a photo finish against south African Akani Simbine.
Both athletes crossed the line 9.93 and had to be separated by the scrutiny of the photo finish.
The last time a Kenyan claimed a gold medal at an 100m race in the Championships was in 1990 during the Cairo Championships held in Egypt.

Winny Chebet also won gold medal at the Championship after cruising to victory in the women’s 1500m, leading a Kenyan 1-2 finish with Purity Chepkirui finishing second.
