Kenya is today hosting Directors of Public Prosecutions from 32 countries in Mombasa.

According to the Director of public prosecutions Noordin Haji, this Conference provides the country with a chance to fully examine some of the most pressing emerging and transnational crimes.

“The Theme of this conference, effective mechanism for responding to emerging crimes and transnational organized crimes in Africa, countries experiences and challenges resonates with our obligation to strengthen cooperation towards preventing and combating transnational organized crimes at the national, regional, continental and international levels,” Haji said.

He further says, the conference will help strengthen prosecutorial services in order to achieve excellence in a progressively complex criminal justice environment.

Tanzania’s Director of Public Prosecutions, and President of the East African Prosecutors Sylvester Mwakitalu noted that the rise in cross border crimes have had a devastating effect across the globe.

Technological advances and the movement of people and goods have enabled criminals to operate across borders unimpeded,” he said.

Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto says the conference is set to deal with the most critical issues in criminal justice and law enforcement. This he said while noting the many ways crime has managed to thrive in present days.

“There have been tremendous changes in the way that we live as individuals and as societies and nations, technology and globalization, have played a significant role in this regard…” the solicitor said.
