IEBC postpones meeting with presidential aspirants over running mates issue

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries  commission has postponed its meeting with political parties and presidential aspirants on nomination of running mates to Tuesday next week, citing engagements occasioned by death of  former president Mwai Kibaki.

The Electoral body had insisted that Kenya Kwanza leader, William Ruto, Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party’s Raila Odinga and other presidential  aspirants name their running mates by Thursday this week.

IEBC had also invited the respective parties officials for a meeting today at its offices in Nairobi, after Azimio la Umoja protested because of the deadline given.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission had set Thursday, April 28 as the deadline for the presidential and governor aspirants to present the names of their running mates.

IEBC was responding to a letter by the Azimio La Umoja secretariat spokesperson Prof. Makau Mutua, who had written to the commission seeking more time to submit the name of its running mate.
