The government officials are putting together an elaborate plan to secure the August 9th general election.
Speaking while addressing a joint meeting between the national Development implementation coordination and communication committee, Development partners and donors, interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i revealed that they were in the process of gazetting special police units, tasked with aiding the national police service.
The special police unit will serve in securing campaigns and elections.
Matiang’i listed hate speech and emergence of outlawed groups as some of the major challenges faced by police.
“And where there are issues to be raised, about how we are preparing ourselves for the general elections, we are able to be forthcoming and forthright with our partners…” Matiang’i said.
The interior ministry has also leased 2,720 vehicles to aid in enhancing mobility and response to affected areas.
This comes amid identification of violence hotspots with mapping and identification of election security threats in progress.
