Health Workers in Mombasa County have been urged to end their strike which began on Monday with the county government saying the strike is illegal.
This is as operations in public health facilities in the county are at a stand still following the strike.
According to the Mombasa county secretary Job Tumbo who spoke on behalf of governor Hassan Joho, all the workers should report to work today.
We are urging them that if anybody who was having a thought of downing their tools or even those who have done so, we ask them to get back to work and continue providing services to the public, said Tumbo.
The doctors have vowed to go on with their strike demanding their delayed January and February salaries and non-remittance deductions.
This is after they issued the ultimatum last Friday afternoon.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Chairperson Coast Branch – Dr. Hassan Mkuche said that for at least two years the medical practitioners have been grappling with the issue of delayed salaries.
“We consulted with other doctors in other counties, and they had been paid their salaries on time. It has been normal for the Mombasa County government to delay health services’ salaries,” claimed Mkuche.
He further said they took the salary delay case to court in November 2021 and they are still waiting for the case to be mentioned on 10th of March 2022.
