Education Ministry Encourages Covid-19 Vaccine Uptake in Schools

The Ministry of Education is calling on school administrations to embrace the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination of teenagers in schools.

According to Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha the National Government, through the ministry of health has approved vaccination of those aged 15 and above.

Speaking in Maseno School in Kisumu on Sunday, Magoha called on schools to collaborate with health officials to carry out vaccination exercises in schools for teenagers however at their own will.

He then noted that the vaccines work and dismissed the rumors surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine doses.

Others have not just suffered, others have died. I’m also very happy to see all of you masked and safe. And this goes to the principal that how I wish you could inoculate these children, if they agree, before they disperse. And the doctors can confirm that it works.” he said.

The CS advised the students on taking the vaccines noting that learning in the institutions will continue amid the pandemic.

The school calendar will proceed since the pandemic is here to stay. Taking a vaccine is a precautionary measure that must be embraced.”

This comes after the Ministry of Education in April this year directed all teachers and support staff to get the Covid-19 vaccine doses.

Initially, only teachers above 50 were eligible for vaccination.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health says 8,861,039 Covid-19 vaccine doses have so far been administered across the country.

Over 5 Million are of partially vaccinated persons and over 3 Million are fully vaccinated.

The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033.
