Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission has advised Nairobi Governor Ann Kananu to reconsider the nomination of Paul Mutunga as Deputy Governor.
In a letter EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak noted that the assembly considered Mutunga’s nomination without any reference to the commission .
EACC added that Mutunga has been charged in the Milimani Anti- Court, with corruption offences and the matter is pending before the court.
Mbarak also pointed that Mutunga was facing charges including Unlawful acquisition of public property and Money Laundering.
The High Court issued temporary orders preventing Mutunga from taking the oath of office. This is after human rights activist Okiya Omtata filed an application challenging the eligibility of Mutunga to hold the office of the Deputy Governor.
Mutunga’s name was passed by 89 MCAs after a vetting exercise led by a 10-member select committee on appointments, which is chaired by the speaker.
