US secretary of state Anthony Blinken Arrives In Nairobi For A Two-Day Visit

The Unites States of America Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has arrived in the country ahead of his two day visit. He was received by foreign affairs CS  Ambassador Raychelle Amamo and Kenya’s ambassador to the Washington DC.

Blinken is expected to convene a meeting with the civil society, the head of state and later a joint presser with the foreign affairs CS .

During this visit to Kenya , the United States Secretary will champion US-Africa cohesion on shared global priorities such as ending the COVID-19 pandemic and rejuvenating the global economy and other means of combating Covid-19

He is also expected to meet the members of the executive including the Presidents and hold talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta and foreign affairs CS Raychelle Omamo, cementing the planned partnership between Kenya and the UnitedS. 

The Secretary and representatives of the Kenyan government will discuss our shared interests as members of the UN Security Council, including addressing regional security issues such as Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan,” the US Embassy in Kenya said in statement. 

He will also advance U.S.-Kenyan cooperation on ending COVID-19, improving clean energy access, and protecting the environment.”

This visit comes barely a month after President Kenyatta was hosted at the White House by his American counterpart President Joe Biden.

The two “underlined the need to bring additional transparency and accountability to domestic and international financial systems, as well as to advance peaceful resolutions to the conflicts in Somalia and Ethiopia,” according to the White House statement.
