Health ministry to limit crowds at Madaraka day celebration

Kisumu and neighboring counties are  now on high alert over the recent rise of positive cases of COVID 19.

The heightened alert has been occasioned with new cases in the last three weeks .The ministry of health and Kisumu county government has been reporting more infections despite the slowdown of the positivity rate across the country.

Kisumu, Migori , Siaya and Kericho counties have been in the top five of new infections.  

With the Madaraka day celebration in Kisumu coming on 1st of June, the health ministry now says it will limit the number of people who will access the venue. The ministry says only 3000 people will be allowed and also strictly follow COVID-19 protocols.

The  World Health Organization has  confirmed the presence of the indian variant in Kisumu which is 50 per cent more transmissible compared to existing strains.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga are expected to lead the celebrations at the Jomo Kenyatta Sport Complex in Kisumu city.

Raila Odinga is already in Kisumu ahead of the celebration on Tuesday next week .
