Senator Okongo Omogeni to chair committee probing Wajir governor impeachment

Senator Okongo Omogeni is set to chair an 11-member committee that will investigate allegations of gross violation of the constitution.

Others are misappropriation of resources, abuse of office and gross misconduct charges against Wajir governor Mohamed abdi.

This is after 28 senators voted to have a committee look into the impeachment of the governor by the Wajir county assembly.

The decision which was arrived at with opposition, saw those opposed terming it as a behind the scenes scheme to save the embattled governor.

This comes in the backdrop of a division of members of the senate business committee, on whether to go the committee way or plenary of the whole house.

The committee is led by wajir senator Abdulahi Abdi and his Kitui counterpart Enoch Wambua, opposing the establishment of a committee.

Moreover Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka urged the committee to move with speed and table a report of its findings and recommendations in ten days.
