The efforts to succeed president Uhuru Kenyattaa after his term expires in August next year have intensified with MPs allied to deputy president William Ruto crafting a deal for Central Kenya region.
The Mps who met this weekend say they will kick start negotiations on the political future of the region ahead of the 2022 succession.
A sections of the lawmakers met on Saturday at Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua’s home, resolved to mount strong campaigns to ensure the deputy president is elected for the top seat .
Speaking to the press, MP Gachagua said they are ready to support the DP who will also look into the interests of the region economically.
They consequently agreed to form an 11 member team from 11 counties that will agree on the economic intervention needed in Mt. Kenya region .
They are also strategizing how they will be well placed to groom the next kingpin for the region by securing one of the powerful position in the Ruto government come 2022.
The Deputy President has made it clear of his ambition to succeed President Kenyatta a move that has put him on crossing paths with his boss.
The DP however has the headache to select his running mate with coast ,western and Eastern regions among those looking to be second in command if he secured statehouse in the next general election.
