The senate has today sworn in Mr. AbdulKadir Haji as the new Garissa senator.

He took the oath in the national assembly where the senate convened in a special sitting called by Speaker Kenneth Lusaka to consider the division of the revenue bill 2021 that was presented to the house last week from the National Assembly.

Senator Haji in his oath pledged to diligently serve the people of Garissa and the nation.

Upon taking the oath Kiambu County Senator Paul Kimani Wamatangi welcomed Senator Haji, promising support from fellow senators and members of the senate as he progressively fits into the shoes his late father Yusuf Haji left and to work up to the extent of his own ambitions.

A number of leaders among them Garissa Governor Ali Korane and former National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale attended the ceremony, collectively endorsing the late Senator’s son.

In memory of our leader, our great son, in memory of a man who served this country, we have unanimously agreed to endorse his son“, said Duale.

Meanwhile, the senate will later tackle the agenda of the day to consider the division of the revenue bill 2021 that was presented to the house last week from the National Assembly.

The bill was stalled at the national assembly, after members differed from the vote insisting that the treasury must first release the national government constituency development fund (CDF).
