3 dead in a bus explosion attack in Mandera County

Three people have been confirmed dead and 10 others injured after a bus they were travelling in hit an improvised explosive device in Koromey, Mandera County.

According to reports by the police, the explosives were planted at night targeting government officers delivering examination papers to schools in Mandera.

According to sources, the patrol police car in the area during the exam period was the main target.

The victims were taken to Mandera County Referral Hospital for treatment as reports indicate that four are in critical condition.

North Eastern Regional Commissioner Nicholas Ndalana has urged residents in the county to surrender any information they may have about the planned attacks.

He adds that officers have been dispatched to the border county to pursue the attackers who are suspected to be Al Shabaab militants even though the Somali-based militant group has not taken credit for the attack.

The attack happened on the last day of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education Examination.
