Makueni Governor launches Solar powered flood lights in Wote Municipality

Makueni Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has launched a Sh58 million solar powered high mast flood-lights in Wote Municipality.

Kibwana says the lighting of the town will improve security and especially for the business community.

The governor further says the solar project will be sustainable and cheaper to maintain unlike using electricity.

He said, “This solar powered lights will use natural sun and no costs will be incurred.”

The project will be funded by the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Programme with 27 solar panels expected to be installed in Wote Municipality.

Kibwana also added that the contractor should ensure that the project is completed with the time allocated. He said, “The contractor should make sure that the project is delivered within the specified period or less.”

He added that unemployed youth will get jobs during this phase hence fight poverty that is affecting many.

He then revealed that phase two will cost sh78 million. He however did not mention when it will begin.
