Mother and Son Vie for Matungu MP seat

2nd Mar 2021 – The Matungu constituency by-election will see mother and son go head to head on 4th of March.

Following the death of Matungu Member of Parliament Justus Murunga on 14th November 2020, his eldest and only son Eugene Murunga announced that he would succeed his father.

However there was a twist, as the elders together with the family members held a meeting to discuss who would succeed the MP, and later they settled for Christabel Murunga to succeed her husband.

Despite the political difference, Eugene maintained that mutual respect still reigns between him and his mother.

“She is a mother at home but a competitor when it comes to hunting for votes, so there is no enmity,” said Eugene.

The two who will vie as independent candidates, with both prioritizing education and infrastructure development.

Eugene said his intention is to complete the term that was left by his father, while Mrs. Murunga said she hopes that people will look at her ability to serve as their leader

Meanwhile, The Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), said 1st of March was the last day of campaigning for the 4th March by-elections.

The campaigns came to an end at 6PM on Monday, with the candidates warned against continuing with any form of campaign activities.

IEBC says, the security agencies will ensure law and order before, during and after electoral activities.
