March, 2nd 2021 – The burial service of the late Juja Member of Parliament Francis Munyua Waititu also known as Wakapee is set to take place today. The service will take place at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

Waititu succumbed to cancer  on 19th Feb, while receiving treatment at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those expected to be in attendance. President Uhuru eulogized the late a progressive leader. He hailed Waititu’s lone campain, declaring cancer a national disaster.

President Uhuru in his eulogy said, “We’ve sadly lost a very progressive, trusted and committed leader whose public actions always reflected the interests of his constituents.”

He added, “Throughout his fight with cancer, (Hon) Waititu led efforts to overcome the disease through awareness creation and support for initiatives aimed at lowering the cost of treatment in the country.”

Mr. Waititu has asked the government to declare Cancer a national disaster. This he said while revealing his own fight with cancer while in India for treatment. He had found many Kenyans seeking treatment for the same.

Mr. Waititu in 2018 claimed that at least 63 members of the National Assembly and the Senate were suffering from Cancer, but his plea for support were unheard.

He said, “I met hundreds of cancer patients from Kenya alone. Among them were nine of my fellow MPs and four Senators. The cancer scourge is enormous and we can no longer afford to bury our heads in the sand. We must get out and talk about it.”
