Ex-Nairobi Governor Sonko ordered to appear in court next week

Feb, 11th 2021 – An Anti-Corruption Magistrate Douglas Ogoti has ordered  former embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and two others facing Sh10 million bribery charges to appear in court in person on Wednesday next week.

This is despite his lawyer John Khaminwa telling Court that Sonko was still unwell and unable to attend Court session. Khaminwa told court that the Governor was still admitted at Nairobi hospital owing to cardiac problems, high blood pressure among other conditions.

Sonko was supposed to appear in court yesterday to inform it on whether his former team of advocates had complied with the directions issued by judge Ogoti last week.

Ogoti had directed Lawyers Cecil Miller and George Kithi to hand in all documentary evidence supplied to them by the state to Sonko’s new legal team within forty eight hours.

At the Kiambu Law Courts, the magistrate was set to rule on Sonko’s bail application in an assault case and a robberry with violence case which he denied. The Kahawa West Court was set to rule on an application by police to detain him for 30 days in order to complete the investigations.
