15 people arrested over plot to attack United Arab Emirates’ embassy

Feb, 4th 2021 – 15 people have been arrested in the capital, Addis Ababa, over a plot to attack the United Arab Emirates’ embassy. According to reports, arms, explosives and documents had been seized.

According to a statement from the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), the leader of the group, 35 year-old Thiold Ali Ahmed Ardayto, was also arrested. The statement said there was clear evidence that the group had been planning, conducting research and gathering information to carry out the attack.

According to (Ethiopian Press Agency) EPA, “The group took the mission from a foreign terrorist group and was preparing to inflict significant damage on properties and human lives.” The UAE’s foreign ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

It also accused the group of planning a similar attack on the UAE embassy in Khartoum, Sudan. According to EPA, Ethiopia’s National Intelligence Security Service was working with its Sudanese counterparts to nab the suspects. However, the Sudanese authority did not give an immediate comment.

Sudanese authorities were alerted by the Ethiopian intelligence service about the looming danger and they managed to obstruct the planned attack

Dure to Ethiopia and Sweden collaboration in exchanging information, the mastermind of the plot is a swedish resident, Ahmed Ismail who was arrested by the Swedish security.
