SRC move to approve MCAs car grants elicits opposition.

The move by the salaries and remuneration commission to approve the 4.5 billion shillings car grants for MCAs ad the county speakers has elicited opposition.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua who is also anti BBI said the timing of the approval meant that the SRC is an extension of the executive arm of government.

Karua further called on the dissolution of the commission as a constitutional commission. Former Mandera central MP Billow Kerrow questioned the decision by SRC and unfortunate that the Medical practitioners were denied allowances in the middle of a pandemic.

LSK president Nelson Havi termed it as a bride to the MCAs who can use their present allowances to buy vehicles.

On Tuesday the SRC chairperson Lynn Mengich said the commission had approved the grants and communicated to the council of governors chairperson who is the Embu governor Martin Wambora on its implementation.

The approval by SRC comes at a time when the county assemblies are handling the BBI bill with two counties Kisumu and Siaya already giving it a nod.

The approval also follows the promise by President Uhuru Kenyatta to MCAs when he made a four days tour in the Mt Kenya region supposedly to drum up support for the passing of the BBI in county assemblies.

The Constitution amendment bill 2020 needs 22 more counties to pass it before it is brought to parliament for more debate.
