The High Court has issued a conservatory order suspending the expulsion of Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) pending a full hearing of the matter.
In a ruling dated, Justice Lawrence Mugambi temporarily halted the UDA Party Disciplinary Committee’s decision made on May 16, , which removed Orwoba from the party and consequently from her Senate position.
Orwoba had been expelled on Monday, over alleged misconduct and failure to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee. UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said that the decision complied with Article 29 of the party’s constitution, which emphasizes loyalty and fidelity to party ideals.
While UDA claimed the expulsion was due to insubordination, the move followed mounting criticism of Orwoba’s participation in an event hosted by former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i in Kisii County — an action perceived as a breach of party loyalty.
Despite the court’s intervention, Orwoba had already been stripped of her Senate position earlier today after senate Speaker Amason Kingi gazetted her seat as vacant.
