The procession of the late Kasipul member of Parliament Charled Ong’odo Were has arrived in Homa Bay town after it was airlifted from Nairobi Thursday.
Mourners have been milling around the procession that is accompanied by a host county and ODM party leaders led by Homabay county governor Glady Wanga.
According to the funeral committee chaired by Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, Homabay residents will pay their last respects to the lawmaker before the procession retires at Were’s home in Kachien, ahead of the burial on Friday.
The state has assured the family and the Homa bay residents of getting to the root cause of the murder and bringing to justice the perpetrators of the heinous act.
While issuing an update of the investigation this morning, The Inspector general of police Douglas Kanja said the two weapons used by Were Killers have been forensically identified.
Kanja further stated that the firearms have also been used in separate criminal and gang related activities within Nairobia and Kiambu counties as recovered in one of the residences linked to the suspects.
This as he confirmed that up to ten suspects have been detained in connection with the murder of Were
“The ballistic report we have received unequivocally links the Sarsilmaz pistol, recovered from the residence of one of the suspects, to the fatal shots that took his life,” Kanja said.
“This critical piece of evidence not only identifies the weapon used in this heinous act but also reveals its involvement in a series of other criminal activities. Specifically, the same firearm has been implicated in three separate robbery incidents across Nairobi and Kiambu Counties, with the most recent crime occurring on April 26, 2025,” Kanja said.
Orange Democratic Movement Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has revealed that the late Kasipul Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Were will be buried in party colors.
Sifuna expressed that Were’s funeral will be characterised with the party’s orange colours as per the late lawmaker’s wishes before his mysterious demise.
“Personally, I am very averse to coming to these funerals where people are dressed in party colours. But you will forgive us on Friday (May 9) because it was Ong’ondo Were’s wish that he be buried in ODM colours,” Sifuna stated.
