Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi nows claims that his life is in danger after the state withdrew his security that are part of his benefits as the former speaker of the national assembly
Speaking to the media, Muturi claims his security was withdrawn because he is “fighting the government”.
The former CS who has become increasingly critical of President William Ruto’s government before he was sacked on March 26 alleged the officers were informed not to serve under his security detail anymore
But in a quick rejoinder, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said Muturi’s security changes were just a routine exercise affecting former officials.
“That is a simple and small matter that should be handled by the IG. If it’s escalated to me, I will address it as per the law,” the CS said when responding to inquiries on the matter.
“We scale down security assigned to officers once they vacate office. It’s normal and it applies to all even me, if I leave office.”
Murkomen, however, invited him to raise his concerns with the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja if it was done procedurally.
Murkomen has refuted claims that the alleged withdrawal of security could be political.
Speaking with journalists in Mombasa, Murkomen further bashed the former AG for disclosing government secrets that included details of the 15 billion trees deal where Muturi alleged that president Ruto wanted entered unprocedurally, noting that his remarks amount to imprisonment.
“The AG at the time said he had kept the documents on email. In another country, he could have been arrested because the principle of how to handle government documents is known,” he said.
“The Attorney General handles classified documents, all of them, almost stamped top secret. The objective is that these documents are government documents. For one of them to say, from the time he joined office, he was photocopying documents, it’s nauseating because they are not personal documents.”
“You swore to confidentiality and could not be having them for two years because you’re dealing with corruption. That’s not true, he’s not the first AG to be fired.”
