After securing a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Namibia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Harambee Stars now shift focus to hosting Gabon on Sunday, March 23, at Nyayo Stadium.
The Stars were 2-0 down early in the second half, but Michael Olunga scored from the penalty spot, and substitute Mohammed Bajaber saw his curling effort put the Stars back into the game, making it 2-2 in the 78th minute.
However, Gambia restored their lead through Musa Barrow in the 84th minute, but William Wilson’s last-minute effort earned the draw.
“I am happy with the players’ determination and resilience in the game, despite facing a tough side,” said Head Coach Bennie McCarthy, speaking after the match.
“We had a lot of chances in the first half which we failed to utilize. They got their first goal and were able to control the game,” Bennie added.
The draw earned Harambee Stars one point, placing them 4th in Group F with 6 points, 6 points behind table leaders Gabon.
“I have seen a lot of positivity in the players; we have a great squad. We now have to prepare for our home fixture against Gabon, and I believe we can achieve something in that match,” Bennie said.
Harambee Stars will host Gabon on Sunday, March 23, at Nyayo Stadium. This will be the first home match for the Kenya men’s national team in four years.
Harambee Stars last played a competitive match on home soil in November 2021 against Rwanda during the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
