A major boost for sports in the country as Sports CS Salim Mvurya donates 10,000 seats to the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Kandunyi, Bungoma County, on March 18, 2025.
While assessing the progress of the ongoing construction work at the stadium, Mvurya shared his vision of promoting youth participation in sports.
‘‘As evident, there is a strong relationship between Bungoma County and the Kenyan Government, which is why the construction is nearly complete,’’ Mvurya said.
‘‘We have donated 10,000 seats, which will not only enhance the comfort of spectators but also help in the development of sports academies nationwide. These academies will enable talent development and scouting among the youth,’’ Mvurya added.
This project aligns with the government’s broader vision of promoting youth participation in sports, offering them opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and representation on the global stage.
According to Eliud Ouma, a Bungoma resident, the progress at the stadium is superb and will significantly help local teams.
‘‘As a sports fan in this area, I am happy with the progress so far. Today, seats are being installed at the stadium, and this is a big boost for sports in our area,’’ Ouma said.
‘‘Our local teams, like AFC Leopards, will soon be able to conduct their training sessions here and host their home matches,’’ he added.
The improved facilities will also provide local athletes with a platform for better training and development, ultimately contributing to Kenya’s goal of becoming a powerhouse in various sporting disciplines, including athletics, football, and rugby.
