The United States Embassy has issued a new travel advisory warning its citizens in Kenya against visiting certain areas due to security threats, including crime, terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
In Nairobi, Americans were urged to stay vigilant in Eastleigh and Kibera due to crime and kidnapping risks.
The advisory also warned against traveling to counties along the Kenya-Somalia border, including Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, and areas north of Malindi, citing terrorism threats.
“Emergency medical and fire services are limited. Avoid traveling after dark in Kenya due to crime and poor traffic safety,” the advisory reads.
West Pokot and Turkana counties were flagged for banditry, while parts of Marsabit and Turkana near the Ethiopian border were deemed insecure due to cross-border incursions. The Embassy also cautioned against demonstrations, strikes, and political protests, warning they could turn violent.
US government personnel have been restricted from traveling to certain high-risk areas, and citizens were urged to remain alert, especially in public spaces frequented by tourists.
