Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga led the 20th anniversary of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in Funyula, Busia County attended by a host of party members including governors and senators on Friday.
The 20th anniversary coincided with Odinga’s consultations following his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, and he is expected to use the occasion to outline his political plans.
Prior to the ongoing rally at the Bukiri Primary School Odinga Raila held a meeting with the party central management committee where they ratified that Raila will retain his position as party leader.
Odinga has said he will not be coerced into join any political outfits that do not align with his party’s ideologies even as he intensifies his consultations for his next political move
He has insisted that the party ideologies will largely inform his next steps.
“Wangapi wanasema baba aendelee kushauriana na watu kwanza nipate maoni?” he posed amid applause from the crowd.
“Tutashauriana na ninawahakikishia kwamba tutachukua msimamo ambao utalenga matakwa and haki ya wakenya wote,” he said.
This as he hit at the President William Ruto regime for the delayed disbursement of funds to counties adding that ODM is a key champion of devolution in the country.
Siaya governor James Orengo hailed the contribution of ODM party in shaping the country’s democracy and urged Odinga to take the bull by the horn by forming the next government.
”As ODM party, we are prepared for 2027 by any means, either by ourselves or through coalition to ensure we clinch that seat,” he stated.
