Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that he will take charge of inspecting government projects before they are officially launched to avoid public backlash.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kindiki explained that his oversight would protect President William Ruto from criticism related to the commissioning of incomplete or unstarted projects.
Kindiki emphasized the importance of ensuring that projects are fully financed and ready for completion before the President is involved in their launch. “We must guard against ridicule directed at the President for projects launched that are not commenced or completed,” he said. “Before the President is engaged, I’ll make sure we have end-to-end financing to avoid embarrassing the President.”
speaking during a consultative meeting with Meru County leaders, professionals, and stakeholders at his official residence in Karen, Kindiki also addressed criticism surrounding the road project between Isiolo and Mandera counties.
Despite mockery on social media, he assured the public that the government is committed to completing the project. The massive infrastructure endeavor, which is expected to take two and a half years to finish, involves 11 contractors working on various sections of the road. Kindiki dismissed online mockery, asserting that those criticizing the project often lack knowledge of the locations involved.
“The road between Isiolo and Mandera is a significant project that will open up the region for economic transformation,” Kindiki said. “We already have 11 contractors on site, and in two and a half years, we will have a road that will benefit the people there. Those mocking the project will have nothing to say once it’s completed.”
Kindiki’s comments respond to a viral video mocking President Ruto after he mentioned towns along the Isiolo-Mandera road during a speech. The Deputy President expressed confidence that the road would bring lasting positive change to the region.
