In her first public statement following the U.S. presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris conceded defeat to Republican candidate Donald Trump, acknowledging that the outcome was not what she had hoped for.

Harris has expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her during the campaign and reaffirmed her commitment to the values of freedom, opportunity, and dignity for all Americans.

“I am so proud of the race we ran and the way we ran it, we have been intentional about building community and building coalitions, bringing people together from every walk of life and background united by love of country with enthusiasm and joy in our fight for americas future and we did it with the knowledge that we all have so much in common than what separates us.”

Kamala has taken pride in the unity Americans have expressed noting that building coalitions and bringing people together had been central to her efforts.

Harris thanked President Joe Biden, her running mate Governor Tim Walz, and her campaign team, volunteers, and poll workers for their hard work and dedication over the course of the 107-day campaign.

In a call for unity, Harris confirmed that she had spoken with President-elect Trump earlier in the day to congratulate him on his victory and pledged support for the peaceful transfer of power.

“I spoke with president elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory and also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”

Additionally Harris stated that, While she conceded to this election, she did not concede the fight, underscoring that the battle for America’s core ideals freedom, fairness, and opportunity was far from over.
