Barry Otieno announces FKF presidency bid

Just a few days after announcing his exit as the Secretary general ofFootball Kenya Federation,  Barry Otieno,  has launched his bid to run for the federation’s presidency.

Otieno resigned from his secretary’s role last week and announced his candidature on Sunday, a day before the deadline for the submission of papers to the FKF Electoral Board.

Ahead of the much anticipated  December national elections in. Barry says he committed to build a stronger, more inclusive and more successful footballing nation, by developing football beyond the pitch in Club empowerment, improved governance, holistic development and grassroots to glory.

“We will invest in capacity building for football administrators in key areas including commercialization of football assets, communication and marketing, legal aspects and strategic planning,” he said.

Otieno joined Nick Mwendwa’s administration in 2016 as the communications manager.

His resume was broadened to include marketing positions, and following then CEO Robert Muthomi’s abrupt departure, he was promoted.

He joins a growing list of hopefuls set to replace Nick Mwendwa that include the  former FKF National Executive Committee for Nyanza, Tom Alila, Murang’a Seal’s Hussein Mohammed, ex-international Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino, Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula, former KPL CEO Jack Oguda, Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ocholla and former FKF president Sam Nyamweya.
