Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has downplayed the remarks made by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed that he is the official opposition leader .
Musyoka has said Junet is only the de facto leader of the minority side of the national assembly by dint of his appointment by the Azimio coalition.
“There is something called “defacto”. The country cannot afford to have a void,” he said.
This as he clarified that he did not appoint himself as the official leader of opposition.
According to the wiper boss, who was speaking in Mombasa county after offering condolences to the bereaved family of Mombasa Cement Limited CEO Hasmukh Patel, he was unanimously appointed by the leaders of the 23 Azimio affiliated parties following Raila Odinga bid for the African union commission chairmanship post.
Azimio co-principals led by Eugene Wamalwa on Tuesday endorsed Kalonzo as the new Azimio leader, moments after the launch of Raila Odinga’s candidature for the African Union Commission chairmanship at State House, Nairobi.
“As Baba leaves for Addis Ababa, there will be no lack of leadership in our great coalition, in fact, we will just get stronger,” Wamalwa said.
The team had convened a press conference at the SK Command Centre in Karen, Nairobi, and fronted Kalonzo as the new leader saying, “In Azimio, there will be no vacuum”.
“We have, by consensus, and I believe many of us who are in this coalition have all consented to him taking over the leadership of our coalition. We have great faith in his leadership, he is experienced as the second highest-ranking leader in our coalition,” the DAP-K party leader said.
