Business man Jimi Wanjigi will tonight spend at the Kamukunji police station after he was arrested when he presented himself to authorities for summoning
Police has charged Wanjigi for possessing firearms without having a license and will be prosecuted tomorrow morning
The detectives have also put Wanjigi to question him claims of possessing of tear gas canisters at his Muthaiga home and alleged financing of the nane nane protests against the government
Speaking when he arrived at the DCI headquarters, Wanjigi insisted that the arrests and summons were politically motivated and meant to undermine his calls for good governance and accountability.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has termed Wanjigi’s arrest as a case of impunity due to a restraining order Wanjigi obtained blocking the police from arresting him
Kalonzo has notified that they shall be filing a contempt of court order case against the police
His DAP K counterpart Eugene Wamalwa has claimed that cases of abduction are still rampant in the country despite President Ruto promise to end cases of arbitrary arrest and extrajudicial killings
According to the two leaders, the officer commanding the Kamukunji police station has assured them of Wanjigi’s safety together with that of his bodyguard
One of Wanjigi’s lawyers, John Khaminwa has expressed his dissatisfaction with the arrest.
Khaminwa said Wanjigi consulted on being summoned and he was advised to honour the summon.
He added that Wanjigi complied with the summons to find out why the police wanted to see him.
