#OccupyJKIA protests play out as police warn against airport breach

Pockets of anti-govt protests are being witnessed in various parts of the country forcing business in Migori, Mombasa, Nyeri and Nairobi CBD to close down.

Mombasa youthful protesters are in a cat and mouse chase with the police who have deployed teargas to disperse assembled mobs in some avenues and streets of the coastal town.

Transportation along the Isebania-Migori-Awendo highway has been disrupted by protesters who have lit bonfires and mounted road barricades, prompting the anti-riot police unit to quell the simmering tension.

Boda Boda riders have been seen patrolling Kajiado’s town of Kitengela repelling anti govt protesters who they  accuse of looting and causing destruction in the area’s critical infrastructures with still little or no activity at this hour

However in Nairobi, critics of the anti government protests have trooped in the central Business District chanting pro govt slogans.

The police have been seen keeping bay from them within the city.

The acting inspector general of police Douglas Kanja has warned protestors planning to breach the Jomo Kenyatta International airport of dire consequences

Speaking to the press from Jogoo House, Kanja has reiterated that JKIA is a protected area and any breach will be treated as case punishable in accordance with the law.

“This state of disorder would have been completely avoidable had protesters taken into consideration the simple legal provisions under the Public Order Act that requires organisers of protests or public procession to inform the police or regulating officers in time as led with the constitution,” the Acting IG said.

Contingents from the Kenya defense forces have been deployed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and will be working in cahoots with the anti riot police unit, the general service unit and the regular police
