Emerging Stars knocked out of the COSAFA Cup

The Kenya’s U23 Emerging Stars are out of the COSAFA Cup after the boys lost chances of securing a slot in the semi finals despite a resounding victory against Zimbabwe on Monday.

The boys were dependent on either Namibia or Angola’s lose against Seychells and Lesotho to move to the next stage by becoming the best placed second team in the three groups competition.

Unfortunately both teams dominated in their games with Angola beating Lesotho 3-1 to secure a position in the next round as the second best placed team

Kenya’s chance was also lost when the boys lost to group B leaders, Comoros. Comoros thrashed Kenya 2-0.

But they bounced back through second half goals from the dynamic Gor Mahia duo of Austin Odhiambo and Benson Omalla to beat Zimbabwe 2-0 in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday afternoon in their final Group B match at the COSAFA Cup.

The victory took Kenya to second spot in the group, behind group winners Comoros, who beat Zambia 1-0 in the other match played concurrently.

Some of the boys in the national team namely Omalla and Austin have their eyes on the CECAFA Kagame cup slated from the 9th – 21st of July in Tanzania

The boys will be participating the 12 team competition under group B by virtue of playing for their local team Gor Mahia.

Austin and Omalla scored crucial goals for the national team.
