President Ruto Announces US-Kenya Collaboration on New Defence Facility

President William Ruto announced that Kenya, in partnership with the United States, is constructing a new defense college to meet the future needs of defense students.

Speaking at the National Defence College Graduation in Karen, Nairobi, Ruto expressed gratitude to the US government for their collaboration in this initiative.

The President emphasized the importance of enhancing the capabilities of Kenya’s security personnel to address evolving regional threats.

“I’m delighted to announce that the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with the United States government is building a new tuition facility for the college in response to the growing demand of national defence college esteemed courses,” he said.

Since 2020, over $230 million has been invested in Kenya’s defense sector. This partnership includes the delivery of 16 US-manufactured helicopters and approximately 150 M1117 Armored Security Vehicles by late 2024 and 2025.

Kenya is also set to join Operation Gallant Phoenix, a program focused on multinational counterterrorism cooperation. Additionally, starting in the summer of 2024, Kenyan Defence Forces will begin training at prestigious US military academies, building on a tradition of military education collaboration between the two nations.
