Joint JLAC team to consider inputs of NADCO IEBC Bill Thursday

A joint  Parliamentary Justice and Legal Affairs Committee has set Thursday as the day it will consider public input on the National Dialogue Committee sponsored IEBC Bill.

The committee has since been collecting public views on the sweeping amendments anchored on the bill after it was tabled in parliament by the NACDO team.

The IEBC Amendment Bill of 2023  proposes in among others an increment in the number of members of the IEBC selection panel from 7 to 9 and provides a procedure for de-limitation of the electoral boundaries.

The joint parliamentary committee will thereafter table the report before the two houses on Tuesday for debate as it sails in the second stage of the law making process.

The IEBC amendment bill is one of the 9 bills fronted by the committee chaired by Kikuyu lawmaker Kimani Ichungwah and Wiper party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka whose coalition principles Raila Odinga and President WIlliam Ruto urged for full adoption.

The opposition has since  accused the government of lack of goodwill in the implementation of the bills after a court suspended the implementation of the report

According to the  petitioner, any attempts to have parliament process the contents of the NADCO report would plunge the country into an unprecedented constitutional crisis.
