Health CS Urges Hospitals Not to Turn Away NHIF Patients Amid Pending Bills Crisis

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced plans to hand over Uhuru Park to the Nairobi County Government on Thursday, marking the completion of renovations at the iconic park.

In a statement addressing questions from Senators, CS Duale disclosed that less than 8 percent of pending works remain, primarily focusing on water connection and drainage improvements.

“I’m handing over Uhuru Park to Nairobi County Gov’t tomorrow morning at 9:00 am, running parks is not our core mandate. However, the ministry has been allowing the public to use this facility on occasions and functions,” he told the Senators on Wednesday.

Despite ongoing renovations, the park has continued to be accessible to the public for various events and functions.

The project, initiated in September 2021 under the Kenya Defence Forces and the defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), aimed to elevate Uhuru Park to international park standards.

With the impending handover, the Nairobi County Government will assume responsibility for the management and operation of Uhuru Park, along with the Central Park recreation centers, once all renovation works are finalized.
