Content creators to monetise content on Facebook from June

President William Ruto has announced that Kenyan digital content creators will now be able to monetise their content on Facebook, as from June, 2024.

Speaking during a meeting with officials from Meta, Facebook’s parent company, alongside several content creators the head of state expressed his satisfaction with the commitment made by Facebook officials.

President Ruto noted that a detailed eligibility criteria will soon be made available to the public, ensuring transparency and equal opportunity for all interested creators.

“In a few weeks, many of you will be eligible. Eligibility criteria will now be available for all creators in Kenya. That’s a big step to make sure that our content creators have an opportunity to monetise their talent to give themselves additional revenue and I’m truly grateful to Facebook for walking with us on this journey.”

“I’ve gotten a commitment that by June, all our creators will now have an opportunity to monetise everything they do in that space, put Ads, and it speaks to our Bottom-up Economic Transformation agenda on making sure that we give everybody a chance,” Ruto said.

President Ruto underscored that this initiative aligns with the government’s Bottom up economic transformation  agenda, aimed at providing every Kenyan with the opportunity to earn a sustainable income and improve their livelihoods.

Speaking in January, the President said about 20,000 computers had been distributed in Kenya creating digital job opportunities for 120,000 youth.

He also said the state was looking at sending other youths to work abroad.
