Doctors’ Strike To Begin On Thursday

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General, Dr. Davji Atellah, has affirmed that the planned industrial action is scheduled to proceed on Thursday.

In a statement on [platform X], Atellah expressed dissatisfaction, noting that there have been no meaningful developments since the union initially declared a nationwide strike.

The KMPDU had issued a 7-day strike notice on March 6, demanding the withdrawal of doctors’ services in hospitals, citing concerns over the placement of medical interns.

The union, led by Dr. Atellah, staged protests on February 29, addressing the delayed posting of 1200 medical interns to hospitals.

During the peaceful demonstration in the capital, Atellah was shot by police officers.

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha dismissed KMPDU’s demands, deeming them unrealistic and asserting that the ministry’s hands are tied regarding the posting of medical interns.
