Govt pays Ksh 450M to 5 counties to finalise HQs construction

President William Ruto has allocated 450 million shillings to 5 counties that were unable to raise money for the completion of the construction of their county headquarters,

Speaking in state house Nairobi, Ruto has said the matter is now long settled having caused acrimony among the county bosses for failure to accommodate and provide a conducive space for the operation of the devolved units

The head of state further challenged the county bosses to explore more avenues of  raising their own source revenues to improve the livelihoods of their electorate.

On the back of a spat between the two levels of govt, the counties blaming the national government for starving them of resources president Ruto has assented into the county government’s Additional Allocations Bill, providing an extra Sh46 billion to devolved units.

The Bill (now ACT) was sponsored by Senate’s Budget and Finance Committee chairman Ali Roba and now paves the way for the counties to receive additional funding from the national government.

“I am very happy that now we have resources that will support our counties. Close to 29-billion-shilling will be made available by this piece of legislation that has now become law. It will support our counties to discharge their mandate assigned to them by the constitution,“ said the President.

He has reiterated the national govt commitment on supporting the devolved units, assuring that his administration will endeavor to ensure an equitable distribution of resources between the two levels of government.

This as he lauded the council of governors for dropping cases that he said had become stumbling blocks to expend the funds through the new act.
