Health CS Nakhumicha Condemns Violent Incident On Busia Healthcare Giver

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has condemned the violent incident on Busia healthcare giver caught on viral video.

In a statement, the CS stated that perpetrators of such acts will face the full force of the law.

In the video, a nurse at the hospita in Busia is seen to be verbally and physically assaulted by a member of the public.

“This recent case of assault on a healthcare worker is not just an attack on an individual; it is an assault on the entire healthcare system. Assaulting a healthcare worker not only endangers their lives but also disrupts the vital services they provide to other patients and the community,” said Nakhumicha.

The Health CS also defended the rights of medical staff, calling for respectful engagements between the public and healthcare works.

She described the Busia healthcare worker’s assault as not just an attack on an individual but an assault on the entire healthcare system and the principles that guide it.

The  National Nurses Association of Kenya Also has condemned the  attack on the  medical staff at Port Victoria Hospital in Busia.

Terming the incident as extreme and uncalled for, the union revealed that the woman, who was captured on video throwing items at a nurse is not a nursing student as stated on social media platforms.

The association has called on regulating authorities to take responsibility and urgently address the matter.

In the undated video, an unidentified woman and man were seen harassing hospital staff over what they termed as failure to attend to a patient.

Amid the commotion, the woman, who caused havoc by throwing files on the floor and hitting a table, was heard telling the nurse that she would call one “Ababu.”

The act has attracted public uproar and condemnation, prompting Sports and Youth Affairs CS to address public discussions surrounding his name.

“The actions associated with me do not align with my values or commitment to public service. I unequivocally condemn any behaviour against principles of integrity. I am thoroughly investigating these allegations and will take decisive actions to rectify any wrongdoing,” Namwamba wrote in a social media post.

The CS further affirmed his dedication to “rebuilding trust through transparency and corrective measures.”
