Dpp Mulele says DCI file will open case in the murder of Meru blogger ‘snipper’

The office of the  Director of Public Prosecutions says it is yet to receive a detailed report on what led to the death of Meru Blogger Daniel Muthiani contrary to reports that the prosecutor has not given the DCI direction on the case.

In a statement the prosecutor says the process of unraveling the heinous act that took out the blogger took a twist after a suspect one Murithi Kirimi was granted a 20,000 cash bail in a criminal miscellaneous application by the DCI in a bid to detain him pending completion of investigations.

“Owing to the fact that the whereabouts of abducted person was unknown, the DCI, through the ODPP applied criminal miscellaneous application no. E116 of 2023 seeking custodial orders pending completion of investigations,” ODDP said.

But according to ODDP, after the blogger’s body was found, it gave DCI the order to start looking into the murderous crime right away and submit the inquiry file that came from it for review and guidance.

“The ODPP has not received the inquiry file into the offence of murder up to date,” ODPP said, indicating DCI is to blame for the same.

The DPP was reacting to an uproar from the public seeking answers on who killed the meru based blogger following a post mortem examination which  revealed that he died after being strangled on the neck.

According to the Govt pathologist Johansen Oduor, Muthani had marks on his neck and he exhibited signs of a person who had lacked oxygen.

The DPP says it will prosecute those found culpable once DCI completes its investigations
