President William Ruto has assented into law the The National Government Constituencies Development Fund (Amendment) Bill that will see a five pc increase in allocation.

The law increases the allocation from 35 per cent to 40 per cent, a move that is aimed to facilitate continuity and completion of education by students and  increases bursaries under the Constituencies Development Fund.

The act will also anchor additional allocation of funds to cater for school feeding programmes, especially in drought-stricken areas, check drop-outs, boost enrollment and further the Government’s efforts to increase literacy.

“This will check drop-outs, boost enrollment and further the Government’s efforts to increase literacy,” said Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw’ah.

The Act also increases CDF allocation on environmental activities from two per cent to five per cent to fund the climate crisis, a three per cent allocation of the Fund for Constituencies’ digital hubs which the govt says are key in enabling the youth to acquire skills to boost their employability.

The ascension of the bill comes amid a grueling tiff between the national assembly and the executive where the parliamentarians are accusing the treasury of holding money meant for schools and development.
