Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has ordered the investigation, arrest, and prosecution of people using social media to incite ethnic and religious intolerance in Lamu.
The CS spoke on Thursday during a review of the security status in the Lamu West constituency.
His statement was in response to a video that was circulated widely claiming that there was a plot to evict some communities from Lamu.
“We want to make it clear that inciting ethnic, religious hate is a crime under the law of Kenya, and we are not going to let any person incite communities against each other,” Kindiki warned perpetrators of ethnic conflict.
Kindiki added that no one will be forced to leave their home affirming that the government will protect all its citizens who live in Lamu, their businesses and properties.
He said the residents should have nothing to fear.
Kindiki further acknowledged the work of the multi-agency operation in Linda Boni, an area prone to attacks carried out by Al Shabaab militants.
