Treasury calls for public participation on proposed sale of KICC & 10 other parastatals

The National Treasury is inviting members of the public to submit their memoranda on the proposed sale of the Kenyatta International convention center and other 10 parastatals.

In a statement, the CS Njunguna Ndung’u led ministry says Kenyans can submit written comments and inputs and submit before the 11th of December this year.

Cabinet Secretary Ndungu has also encouraged Kenyans to participate in the privatization program in various designated places in the country where Nairobi locals can attend session in KICC on Monday from 9 am to 5pm.

The request by the ministry comes hot over heels a blow by a court where Justice Chacha Mwita issued conservatory orders blocking the privatization of the 11 agencies.

The ODM party had moved to court and raised concerns over the sale of the agencies arguing that the 11 are state’s assets financed by the public.

In his ruling Justice Chacha Mwita said the opposition raised substantial constitutional and legal issues of public importance that require critical examination and consideration by the court.

The Judge further directed the ODM party to serve the petition upon the Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, Attorney General Justin Muturi, and National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u and file their responses within 5 days

Mwita said ‘highlighting of submissions will be done on February 6 next year.’

President William Ruto government has defended the proposal to privatize the parastatals stating that the move will generate more revenue into the economy.
